An estimated timeline for completion will be provided at the time of consultation.
-
What are your hours?Hours of operation (by appointment only): MONDAY: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM TUESDAY: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM WEDNESDAY: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM THURSDAY: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM FRIDAY: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM SATURDAY: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM (by appointment only) SUNDAY: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM (by appointment only)
-
How deep of a scratch will XPEL still self-heal?The clear coat is the self-healing layer and is approximately 13 microns thick. If that layer is penetrated, the film will not heal.
-
How long should I wait to apply PPF to my vehicle if it has been repainted? It's best to ask the body shop directly. The time will vary depending on the paint system and baking procedure used. Generally, the recommended time to wait before waxing the paint is also the same timeframe for installing paint protection film.
-
What is the life expectancy of XPEL PPF?10+ years. XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS 10mil/8mil and XPEL STEALTH are warrantied for 10 years, parts and labor. This warranty covers yellowing, staining, delaminating, cracking, peeling, bubbling, and more. More information on the warranty can be found on XPEL's website (Warranty Information page).
-
Does PPF increase resale value?Yes. When PPF is professionally installed, it can increase the resale value of your vehicle and protect its value as it ages. PPF is intended for long-term protection and helps maintain a newer appearance. People will think you are driving a new vehicle everyday. It's important to note that low-quality PPF, applied by inexperienced installers, can have the opposite effect, immediately reducing your vehicle's resale value and potentially causing long-term damage that diminishes its overall value. Trusting a shop like Appearance Solutions is key to preserving your vehicle's value and ensuring its long-term protection.
-
Does Appearance Solutions use XPEL's pre-cut kits? No. We have utilized XPEL’s proprietary and award winning Design Access Program (DAP) since 2007 and have mastered the program's design/modification capabilities. For each new vehicle, we meticulously modify the original patterns, aiming for the most seamless and customized fit and finish. Our goal is to extend the edges of each panel and reduce seams/relief cuts to ensure the most coverage possible. In certain cases, a "bulk" film installation is necessary to achieve the best possible coverage.
-
Will removing the film harm the vehicles paint, once removed?Paint protection film should never cause harm to OEM paint. OEM paint produced today has a minimum bond strength of 16 megapascals (MPa)* and maximum of 25 MPa between the panel and the paint depending on color, iridescence, and the system used. XPEL's films bond to the painted surface at under a normal state (immediately following installation), which is .0753 MPa. Even after years of heat and sun, the bond between the film and the paint increases to only 0.17 MPa. What that means is in the absolute worst case scenario, the bond of factory paint to the panel is over 94 times stronger than the bond of our film to the paint. In the best case, the paint is 332 times stronger. That being said, it is still recommended to have the film removed professionally for the safest results. *A megapascal (MPa) is a basic unit of pressure or tension measurement in the International System of Weights and Measures.
-
Can the film be waxed? While you can wax the film, be sure the product you are using doesn’t contain Naphtha or Kerosene in concentrations over 5%, and avoid waxes that contain dyes. For best results, we recommend using XPEL Flawless Finish Paint Protection Film Sealant or XPEL Ceramic Boost. These products have been specially formulated for use with polyurethane paint protection films to provide the maximum protection and gloss, while containing no ingredients that would cause discoloration over time. For more information, please refer to our Client Resource "Aftercare" page.
-
Can PPF be installed on top of a vehicle that has been ceramic coated? We would not recommend this because ceramic coatings create a hydrophobic surface and will interfere with the PPF's adhesion to the painted surfaces. Order of operation: wash, prep/paint correction, PPF installation, and lastly, the application of a ceramic coating. In the event that a ceramic coating has already been applied, we will remove it during our Prep/Paint Correction process. Following the application of PPF, we apply XPEL FUSION PLUS PPF to enhance its performance and durability. Check out our Ceramic Coating page for more details.
-
What is Paint Protection Film?Paint Protection Film, also known as "PPF" or "Clear Bra", is a invisible polyurethane film designed to protect the most vulnerable areas of your vehicle’s paint from damage caused by road debris, rocks, gravel, salt, bird droppings, insects, and other environmental contaminants.
-
Can a Ceramic Coating be applied to XPEL PPF?Yes. XPEL Fusion Plus is the only ceramic coating specifically engineering to be applied over XPEL PPF to enhance its performance and longevity.
-
What are the reasons for using XPEL's PPF films?Appearance Solutions has exclusively partnered with XPEL Technology Corp., the most recognized name in the paint protection industry, since 2007. Superior to all other paint protection films available, XPEL ULTIMATE PLUSâ„¢ and STEALTHâ„¢ have the best-in-class durability, performance, and appearance. For our gloss finish applications, we offer XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS 10mil (the thickest film available) and ULTIMATE PLUS 8mil. For our matte or satin finish applications, we offer XPEL STEALTH (8mil only).
-
Do you use a plotter to cut the film?Yes. Known around the world for its high precision cutting, reliability, and build quality, we use the Graphtec FC8600 High Performance Cutting Plotter.
-
Can I apply paint protection film myself? While DIY Paint Protection Film (PPF) kits may be available, it is important to note that applying PPF requires skill, precision, and experience. Professional installation is highly recommended to ensure the film is properly aligned, free of bubbles, fitted seamlessly to the contours of your vehicle, and lasts the intended duration of time.
-
Can PPF be installed on my brand new vehicle?Yes, most factory OEM paint is fully cured by the time the dealership receives your vehicle. If you have any concerns that your paint is not fully cured, feel free to reach out anytime to discuss.
-
How long has Appearance Solutions been installing PPF?16+ years. Since 2007, Appearance Solutions has led the way in delivering near seamless PPF installations in Northern California. As a result, we have earned a well-deserved reputation for our attention to detail.
-
What is the best method to wash and maintain my vehicle after having PPF installed? The preferred method for washing is always by hand, and the use of automatic/touch-less car washes is never recommended. To maximize the longevity of these products and maintain your vehicle's pristine appearance, it's essential to use appropriate aftercare products. For more information, please refer to our Client Resource "Aftercare" page.
-
Does the 10-Year warranty transfer to another owner if the vehicle is sold?XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS and/or XPEL STEALTH warranties are transferable to another owner with proof of purchase.
-
Do I have to wrap the full vehicle? No. The best part of paint protection film is that it’s virtually invisible and does not change the appearance of your vehicle's paint, meaning it can be applied only to the high-impact areas without a discernible difference from the rest of the vehicle. For those who may not be interested in a full vehicle wrap, our ceramic coating packages offer the most effective and long-lasting solution to protect the remaining finish of your vehicle.
-
Can XPEL PPF be installed on your windshield? No, XPEL PPF cannot be installed on your windshield. Due to the impact absorbency of paint protection film, the refractive index of the film is too different from that of the windshield. Because of this difference, putting the two together causes a distortion when looking through the glass that would be unacceptable to the vehicle’s occupants.
-
How do you clean stubborn insects, bird dropping, or hard water stains from the PPF?For stubborn insect, bird dropping, or hard water stains, you can use a wet detailing clay bar along with an all-purpose degreaser (such as Simple Green) as the lubricant.
-
What is in XPEL Fusion Plus Ceramic Coating?FUSION PLUS is formulated using Silicon Dioxide (Si02) as the main active ingredient. It is a complex chemical matrix that cross-links to the PPF or painted substrate to form a strong 9H coating. Si02 coatings create a chemical bond with a vehicle's paintwork, forming a protective layer that enhances gloss, provides hydrophobic properties, and protects against various environmental contaminants.
-
When should you choose Paint Protection Film versus a Ceramic Coating? The decision to choose between Paint Protection Film (PPF) and a Ceramic Coating depends on your specific needs, preferences, and priorities for protecting your vehicle. It's essential to understand that PPF and Ceramic Coatings serve different purposes and, therefore, are complementary and cannot be directly compared. Typically, our clients opt for a package that includes both PPF and a Ceramic Coating. Paint Protection Film, often referred to as "PPF or Clear Bra," is a transparent polyurethane material that is applied to the vehicle's painted surfaces. Its primary purpose is to protect your vehicle's paint from various external damage, such as rock chips, road debris, scratches, and other minor abrasions. Ceramic coatings provide protection against harmful environmental contaminants such as bird droppings, tree sap, and UV rays. Ceramic coatings are a liquid polymer that creates a long-term chemical bond with your vehicle's exterior and interior surfaces that forms an ultra-thin, long-lasting protective layer. Additionally, ceramic coatings enhance shine, gloss, color depth, and exhibit remarkable hydrophobic and ease of maintenance properties. In summary, clients seeking protection from damage caused by rock chips, road debris, scratches, and other minor abrasions opt for PPF. Those that are less concerned about the appearance of rock chip damage often choose Ceramic Coating for enhanced aesthetics, and ease of maintenance.
-
What are the benefits of a Ceramic Coating?Ceramic coatings deliver outstanding vehicle protection and ease of maintenance benefits, with years of lasting protection. They offer superior durability, outlasting traditional waxes and sealants which typically last only a few months. Their hydrophobic properties repel water, keeping the vehicle cleaner and easier to wash. The coating boosts paint gloss and shine while providing UV protection to prevent oxidation and fading. It also resists light surface marring/scratches and guards against contaminants like bird droppings and acid rain. Although the initial cost is higher, the extended protection and reduced upkeep make ceramic coatings a cost-effective long-term investment.
-
What are the reasons to opt for a combination of Paint Protection Film and Ceramic Coating?Paint Protection Film (PPF) and a Ceramic Coating are often chosen together for comprehensive vehicle protection. Clients who select both seek ultimate defense against rock chips and scratches with PPF, coupled with the long term (4-10 year options) benefits like enhanced shine, gloss, and hydrophobic properties provided by Ceramic Coatings. The combination ensures a complete balance of protection for the vehicle's exterior against various threats, while also enhancing its appearance and ease of maintenance.
-
I just had my windows tinted, why do they look hazy or blotchy? The moisture that remains between the film and the glass after installation can cause a hazy, streaky, blotchy appearance. It takes several days for the film to completely cure. The remaining moisture will evaporate through the film. Depending on the type of film, this process may take several days. When the water evaporates completely, your windows should have excellent clarity.
-
Will window tinting have any impact on my front and rear defrosters? No. Our window films are fully compatible with front and rear defrosters.
-
My vehicle's rear windows already came tinted from the factory, do I still need to tint them? Most trucks and SUVs come equipped with privacy glass, which does offer benefits (i.e., privacy, improved comfort, and better aesthetics), but does not provide significant heat rejection. To achieve maximum heat rejection, it is essential to include these windows in the tinting process. If you are satisfied with the current darkness level and wish to maintain it, we recommend opting for one of our lightest shades of XPEL PRIME XR. This will help maximize comfort while preserving excellent visibility and clarity.
-
What is the warranty period for XPEL PRIME window tint?XPEL PRIME film offers a transferable lifetime warranty. The warranty covers against cracking, peeling, bubbling, delamination, fading and color change for the life of the film. The warranty is transferable to the new owner of the vehicle.
-
Does window tint get applied to the outside of the window? No. Window tint is installed on the inside of the glass.
-
Do I need to wait to roll my windows down?We recommend that you leave your vehicle's windows rolled up for at least 24-48 hours after the window film has been installed. This allows the film to cure and adhere to the glass before the window is moved. No need to worry if your frameless window drops when opening the door, as the material has been neatly tucked beyond the lowest drop point for a secure fit.
-
What do the different shades of film mean?Film percentages represent the Visual Light Transmission (VLT), indicating the amount of light allowed through the film. The lower the percentages the darker the film. Thanks to XPEL PRIME XR Plus, you can enjoy excellent heat rejection even with the lighter films, eliminating the need for dark windows to experience the benefits of heat rejection. Appearance Solutions offers the following window film percentages: 70%, 55%, 45%, 35%, 20%, 15%, and 5%
-
What are the benefits of Ceramic Window Tint?Ceramic Window Tint brings a multitude of advantages, including heat reduction, enhanced glare reduction for eye comfort, UVA/UVB protection, improved aesthetics, and increased safety, privacy, and energy savings.
-
What should I use to clean my windows after I have had them tinted? After window tint installation, wait a week before cleaning the inside of the window where the film was installed. We recommend a 50/50 mix of distilled water and 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA). After a week, you are free to to clean the glass with a soft microfiber cloth. Never scrape the film with any type of blade or clean your tinted windows with anything abrasive, as it will scratch the film.
-
What is paint correction?Paint correction is a "fancy" term for the process commonly known as polishing. It includes the meticulous and skillful technique of correcting or minimizing surface imperfections (i.e., swirl marks, spider-webbing, micro-marring, scratches, bird dropping etching, hologram/buffer marks) on the paintwork of a vehicle. Paint correction requires advanced skills, experience, and the use of proper equipment and materials, and if performed correctly, results in a smooth, mirror-like finish.
-
Is paint correction necessary on my new vehicle?New vehicles can accumulate minor imperfections, swirl marks, light surface scratching, or other defects during transport from the manufacturer and handling at the dealership. Therefore, some level of correction is almost always beneficial and will enhance the overall appearance and ensure a flawless finish. Paint correction is our standard process prior to the installation of any PPF package or ceramic coating option.
-
How can I determine if a scratch is too deep to be polished out?The most common method to assess whether a scratch is too deep is by running your fingernail over it. If your fingernail snags on the scratch, it might be too deep to completely remove. However, there is still a possibility for improvement.
-
Will paint correction address rock chips, missing paint, or dents?Kindly provide the touch-up paint for your vehicle and we will touch-up any rock chips or missing paint at no charge. Touch-up paint must be provided, as we do not have paint mixing capabilities. For the removal of small dents, we can facilitate the process through one of our trusted vendors, Dents, Dings & Things. If you have any questions regarding your vehicle's condition, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
-
Is it necessary to schedule a consultation for a paint correction estimate?Yes. In order to provide an accurate paint correction estimate, it is necessary to schedule a no-obligation consultation. During the consult, our client advisor will assess the condition of your vehicle's paint and determine the extent of correction required. This in-person evaluation ensures that we understand your specific needs and can offer you a tailored and precise estimate for the paint correction service. To facilitate a proper inspection, please ensure that your vehicle is clean so that we can properly assess the paint. This ensures accuracy in our recommendations and pricing.

-
Does the 10-Year warranty transfer to another owner if the vehicle is sold?XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS and/or XPEL STEALTH warranties are transferable to another owner with proof of purchase.
-
Do I have to wrap the full vehicle?

-

How long does the installation process take for Paint Protection Film, Ceramic Coating, and/or Ceramic Window Tinting? The installation time varies depending on the size and complexity of the vehicle and the specific services requested.
